Pain on left side... like stitch...

My wife is 37+6 and she been having pain on her lower left side of her abdomen, similar to a stich.

Its been there almost a day now, is it something to worry about, or just ligaments stretching etc?

It could be ligament pain.

Does she have any back pain, or pain when weeing? If so it could be a UTI, which means she will need to go and see the GP for anti-biots.

If you're still not sure, get your wife to call the midwife - that's what they're there for.

No back pain, but she said that her stomach constantly feels tight (so not a contraction?) and like its a stitch, now over the whole belly, not just left.

would say baby is shifting about and stretching the womb tighter. Labour pain will be low down and move to her back (I didn't feel any tightness in the top half of my bump at all in early stages of labour) and she will have a huge urge to have a number 2 (sorry if tmi!)...

If she is worried call her midwife, they are there to help and reassure.

I had that in late pregnancy, it's quite scary whenever you get any pain in your bump but it was just a pulled muscle/ligament. It so easy to pull them at this stage when everything is so distended. I did go in for monitoring at one point but everything was fine, I'd just overdone it. (I'd lifted a heavy washing basket the day before)

Has she been doing a lot of nesting?

Having said that, obviously keep an eye on it, make her rest and ask your midwife if you're at all concerned. If they have you in for monitoring it's nothing to worry about, they just get her to lie with a monitor strapped to the bump and see how often the baby kicks in so many minutes, iirc.

Mine was like that btw, sharp stitch like pain on my left side. The tightening is probably braxton hicks (practise) contractions, which some women get a lot of towards the end. But again, if you're concerned, call your midwife, they won't mind at all! hth
