Placenta pulsing....

Weve been told its best to wait until after the placenta stops pulsing before cutting or clamping the cord....

How do you know when its stopped pulsing? Does it only stop pulsing once its out?

Once the cord has stopped pulsating it means the placental function has stopped. So, what you should do is wait until the cord has stopped pulsating before it is clamped and cut. The midwife will be able to assess when this has happened just by feeling the cord.

It takes about 15 minutes once the baby has been born and the midwife will check it before suggesting it's time to cut it.
