First period after birth

This is my third baby, and despite me breastfeeding I have been blessed () with the first period at just over 7 weeks. It is extremely heavy. I am (TMI warning) going through a super tampon every hour to 1 1/2 hrs. Last night when I got up for the baby I had to run to the toilet and I made a real mess of things in the bed and on the way to the bathroom. Twice. Sorry for the gross image, but I am a little concerned. This seems very heavy. I am pretty tired today, and a little shaky but I am eating a lot to compensate and drinking loads.

I can't remember what the other two were like?

that sort of flooding is not good , is there a chance you have an infection ? had your lochia stopped?

you might end up aneamic if you are bleeding so heavily.

give your GP a call...

I should have said that the lochia ended 2 weeks ago, and I got my period with baby 2 at 10 weeks so I am positive it's a period.. just worried how heavy it is.

it is not normal, but i might not be anything terrible, IFYSWIM

but you need to be checked out, just in case, might be best to not use tampons in case it is an infection and to use heavy duty sanitary towels. also, sit on a towel?

sorry, sounds horrendous, you poor thing

I think it's settling down, it's every 2 hours now that I need to change so that's good. Just a bit shaky. Thanks for responding - any worse and I will get myself seen

My first periods when I was a teen were this heavy. i had to use a tampon with a nighttime towel to give me about 4 hours between changes

Glad to hear it's starting to settle down.

are you taking any iron supplements? you could take spatone for a bit to give yourself a boost hope it all settles down soo

crace · 13/07/2008 16:04

Are the wonder that is spatone. I took it during pregnancy and after my c-section and it helped. I will take it again.

Honestly, you'd think nature would give you a break after having a baby!

Much sympathy icecube, must have been a shock.
