Help back to back

I have been in labour for 2 days now and have planned ahome birth - baby is back to back and if does not speed up they will take me in!

Any sugestions on getting it to turn please!

mine were back to back. Have your waters gone?

Sit with knees lower than hips and leaning forwards or probably more effective would be on all fours with shoulders higher than bottom.

Why will they take you in? Why can't you stay as you are?

why are you going to be taken in? if baby is happy then you are ok to stay home

how dilated are you and what are your contractions like? are you in established labour or the latents stage

make sure your waters are kept intact as helps baby to move around

i gave birth to a baby who ws back to back and stayed back to back and was born face up.

once labour got going, it was fast and straightforward.

sit on a birth ball, don;t lie on your back. keep active upright and mobile and listen to your body

sip rasbperry leaf tea and honey and eat lightly to keep your energy up as back to back labours are longer , on the whoel

I was in early labour with an OP baby for 3 days at home. The birthing centre were actually very happy for me to stay there and kept me at home as long as possible!
Have your waters broken? Is that the issue - that they want to monitor for infection?

I laboured at home for 3 days with OP baby. Midwife said that it slows everything down and that it makes contractions erratic.

My waters were broken at hosp and then everything speeded up.

Not sure how to turn the baby but sometimes they do it of their own accord.

I've had 2 back to backs.....first one took ages and I was BEGGING them to take me in and give me the drugs to move things along as I was in so much pain and so tired. Second one was a quick 6 hour labour and I think I watched TV and chatted to my husband throughout...!!!! So I'm now convinced that the first one took so long and was so painful because it was a first birth and I was probably all stressed and anxious - when the 2nd one was back to back too, I was resigned to the fact that it was going to be hideous so i just relaxed and my body knew what to do....the whole process was (dare I say it) rather pleasant!!!

If this is your first baby it is perfectly normal to be in the latent phase of labour (up to 4cm) for a long time. As long as waters are intact, baby is happy, you are happy and there is no other medical problems there is absolutely no indication to 'speed things up'.

go on your hands and knees, and also walk around.

2 babies (both my girls! ) born back to back (face up) at home... last 1 midwife didn't even get there in time!

CharlotteYork - sorry to hijack your thread but I have also just been told baby is back to back (although not convinced this is the case). Does anyone know is leaning over a birth ball on your knees a good idea (even if your bum isn't necessarily higher than your head?). I still have 5 weeks to go so trying everything I can. Strangely though when I'm in the bath I'm sure I make out the shape of the baby's back on my tummy (long thin and cone shaped!) Good luck CharlotteYork!

Imagine your bump is a balloon full of water with a doll inside it. The head and the spine are the heaviest bits so any position where your bump is forwards (rather than when you slouch) will help. Also make sure you sit with your knees lower than your hips and knees apart letting bump rest forwards between them. All fours but with shoulders higher than hips. Google 'optimal foetal positioning' to get good info on good positions to be in.

Rule #1. No slouching back in a chair!!!
