has anyone actually 'investigated up there' to see whether they are dilated? I know I saw a post on this vein before.

I just have and have quite a bit of white discharge on the way back out (about a finger full) is this normal? Everything feels soft and I'm due to drop but haven't had any proper contractions or waters breaking or a show yet.

Just wondered as everything seems to be 'looser' up there. IYSWIM.

And now I've got an ache in my back that feels like it could be in the front (?) if you know what I mean? And when I put my hand on bump it hurts a little?

Any advice?

Still no waters yet though but just read on the 'net that they don't tend to break until you are 9cms dilated?

Ahhhh confusion.

Well, every woman is different. Extra discharge in pg is normal as long as it is not smelly, green, etc. Soft is good

Some waters break days before, some during labour, some have to have theirs broken (me, mine never go on their own!!)everyone is different. Relax

I think its best not to investigate yourself regularly because of risk of infection. Midwives only tend to check these days when they have to to minimise the risk of anything nasty getting up there!

I have tried to investigate but can't reach that far inside anymore.

Midwife says that when she does my sweep next week, sometimes even the MW can't reach. She said that part of the reason sweeps can be painful is that she has to work her fingers round the baby's head. Eek.
