I thoroughly enjoyed the programme but I too, couldn't help feeling that the women were being incredibly selfish. I was also disappointed that homebirth was not discussed as sensible option. I've had two homebirths and on both birth plans, I described my wish to be left to labour. All three mws who attended me (none of whom I'd met before btw) were sensitive and wonderfully supportive of me, my home and my wishes. Whilst I found most aspects of birth intuitive (dare I say easy?) there were times, particularly during the second stages, where I was really glad someone was looking after my perineum! And whilst I might be able to notice obvious problems with a newborn, I was glad someone was there to check any damage to me after my births, to monitor blood loss etc. I just think all the women and babies were very very lucky and really don't think that freebirthing is a rational and responsible answer to previous traumatic or over-medicalised experiences.
