Can you? I thought you couldn't take them on an empty stomach and if everything is coming out both ends then surely the stomach is empty?

I thought it was ibuprofen you couldn't take on an empty stomach? Paracetamol is safe to take while pregnant but if your vomiting you might not be able to keep it down? I always leave food and liquid for 20min after vomiting and then take little sips and see if I can keep it down. If you drink water straight after vomiting it might make you vomit again and this can dehydrate you very quickly. I got this advice from NHS direct but if your not sure call them - that is if your in the UK?? Hope you feel better soon

Thanks Quokka - it says on the packet not to take on an empty stomach. But if I can keep a bit of milk down maybe I can take some - having said things seem to be quietening down now. Hurrah. Time to get some sleep I think.

Why would paracetamol be worth taking if you are vomiting? It's a painkiller.

i assume the early labour might be slightly painful

PertweeAndLemon · 06/07/2008 08:07

nkf, I imagine that wmmc thinks that labour might perhaps be painful and so would like to take a painkiller...

nkf · 06/07/2008 08:28

Well, it is painful but not really at Paracetamol level. Anyway, I clearly misread the post. I thought she was taking it for vomiting.

The midwives offered me a paracetemol when I was in early (and bloody painful) labour with DS (in hospital as I was high risk and not allowed home). Somehow I avoided saying anything unprintable...

I was lucky/unlucky enough to give birth using only 2 paracetamol for pain relief! Lucky in that I realise I had an easy labour and it was quick, unlucky in that the paracetamol did no good at all and it blinking well hurt!!

Actually the paracetamol is to kill the pain in my legs from getting to the bathroom with bad SPD. I did 13 hours of full dose syntocin on 2 paracetamol and entenox last time. I can deal with the pain of contractions but not the pain in the back of my legs - can't actually walk and don't have enough time to crawl to the loo to poop AND vomit unless I actually move in there.

Am still merrily vomiting around the house. Haven't managed to puke on MiL yet but am working on it.

If this bloody baby takes another week to come I'm not speaking to him when he comes out.
