Doula training in Singapore but highly recognised in the UK - reccomendations please Doulas!

Hi ladies I really want to become a birth and postpartum doula but I live in Singapore at the moment. Chances are that we will move back to the UK at some stage so I want choose the right course for both countries. I have had a look at Child Birth International and wanted to see if that is highly regarded in the UK? If not are there any other courses I could do from Singapore?

I have completed my baby massage course here with the International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM) and am hoping to use that with my doula training. Are there any other courses I should be looking at?

So, all you doulas out there which courses did you do and were they any good? I would also love to hear any doula stories you are willing to share with me

Have you tried the parentlink website here? You can contact the doulas and ask them where they trained.

Most of the doulas here seem to CBI trained.

I'm currently going through Childbirth International for the doula and childbirth educator certification and one definite plus is that there aren't any required workshops which when I started researching found that there were none anywhere that I could get to.

I really like the program and that it is totally web-based except for the births I have to attend make it very do-able with two little ones, a husband, job, etc.

i just moved to Singapore from Israel and very much wanna take a baby massage course and doula post partum (i did my baby massage course in Israel just before i left but do need some practice).where can i learn here? i'm kind of lost here and could use some help

Doula UK (DUK) is the biggest network of doulas in the UK, therefore it would be a good idea to take one of their recommended courses if you plan to work in the UK in future as if your course is not recognised by them you will be unable to join.

Doula UK only recognise certain courses that they consider to follow their core corriculum and provide a good standard of training, they are also inspected/monitored by DUK so you can be sure of a really good standard, you can find a list here:

As far as I'm aware there are no DUK recognised courses operating in Singapore.

Also as part of DUK training you undergo a period of mentorship for your first 4 births, obviously mentors are all in the UK. I'm not convinced that doula'ing is something you can learn from an online course - in fact the real learning comes from the work itself and the subsequent mentoring and reflection, so do make sure whatever course you take includes this.
