st mary's paddington - new birth centre

Hello - I hope someone can help - I wondered whether anyone had had any experience of the new (NHS) birth centre at St Mary's.

I've read some quite scary birth stories but I'm hoping the birth centre will be a massive improvement... any thoughts/ experiences gratefully received (it's my first baby and I am irrationally worried about being left alone after birth, privacy, tearing, the usual etc etc!)

It has only just opened - My GP had a tour of the new birth centre and she said its absolutely amazing. They run tours for pregnant women - you can call on 0207 886 2260 to find out when - when you meet a midwife and can ask any questions you have. Am hoping to give birth there this time round (as have moved house and now is my nearest hospital/Midwife led birth unit). Dont worry about the scary birth stories (I'm probably one of them) - every birth is different and at the end of the day you have a wonderful little baby to enjoy...

Hi I'm hoping to give birth there too at the end of September. I haven't been for the tour yet but someone from my yoga class has and said it was just fantastic. Wonderful facilities and a calming, positive attitude from all of the staff there. There's an interesting press release here which might give you a bit more info too...

Hi - thank you for your reply. I have to pick up the documentation from my GP and make my first appointment this evening so tours and midwife meetings will follow. Good luck with your birth there - you are right about the end result being worth it!Thanks again
