Hi there I had sweep on my due date and waters broke that night but contractions didn't really follow - started but only came up to 20 mins apart and I was induced day and a half later - so, in short, I think it starts things off but if baby isn't moving it doesn't really help! Also I suffered a bad pelvic infection after wards and I blame the days I was left with no amniotic fluid around baby due to sweep. Not sure if that's helpful for you!!

with my last pregnancy i had a sweep at 40+1 and was already 4-5cm and went into labour that night (2.5 hrs start to finish) but i was wondering if it would be different/ or if they would even be able to do it successfully at 38 weeks

If you are still a few weeks away from going into labour naturally, then a sweep won't work.

Are you showing any signs of labour?

angemorange · 02/07/2008 16:54

God that was speedy!! Think mine lasted 3 days in total!!!

lulumama · 02/07/2008 16:56

very unlikely unless you have a history of earlier rather than later births

they tend to work if they are going to at 41 + weeks

especially for a first baby

also, a sweep can break your waters as angemorange has said, and then you are on a timetable for induction of labour

Personally I wouldn't bother with the discomfort. They come when they're ready etc. Why are they doing this at 38 weeks? It seems very early to be poking about. Don't forget normal pregnancy can go to 42 weeks. Good luck anyway.

been having strong braxtons, mood swings, periody cramps and mucusy discharge, but who knows lol, they say 3rd babies mess u about

then you might well be on the way, so if so, let your body do it

lots of sex and nipple stim could help

if baby not ready, then he;/she won;t come

so maybe just leave well alone!

I wouldn't bother unless I was 41 + weeks. I had a sweep with dd2 at 41 weeks because they wanted to induce me, fortuatnely the sweep worked but labour was long.

I am over 41 weeks and had an attempted one yesterday. They coulnd't do it.
