Wine whilst breastfeeding?

Health visitor said it’s safe to do so in moderation but I’m 11 weeks breastfeeding now and still find the idea of it frightening but am dying for a glass of wine as obviously been forever since having one!

Did anyone else have a wine here and there whilst breastfeeding?

I did !
the wine doesn’t go from your mouth to boob
general rule is unless paralytic you’ll be fine to feed
no need to pump and dump either

I never did but the advice when I had my eldest 14 nearly 15 was not too really but I’m not a big drinker either so it never bothered me.
id ask your health visitor but I’m sure a small glass might be ok?? I personally wouldn’t but it’s down to personal choice isn’t it?

Your milk will have around the same concentration of alcohol as your blood does. If your blood had high enough concentrations to get someone even slightly drunk, you'd be very very dead.

It's fine, one glass is completely and utterly harmless.

I did. As long as you drink in moderation, go for it. The science says it is fine so make the most of the long periods sat breastfeeding and have a glass!

It’s fine. My doctor said it would have no impact at all.

Obviously they don’t want pissed mothers in charge of newborn children, but one glass of wine is fine.

best guidance is to allow 2-3 hours for 1 unit to get through your system. So best timing would be to drink a glass of wine while feeding because then you have time til the next one!

It’s absolutely fine

It might be different for a premature or poorly baby but for a normal healthy one it's fine. I usually fed her right beforehand and had it with a meal just to be on the very safe side.

Crack on and enjoy your wine. It’s more about drinking in moderation because you have a newborn to look after, than them being affected by your milk. One drink is absolutely fine.

My health visitor said as a rule of thumb if you're sober enough to look after the baby then it won't affect the milk.
I had a glass of wine (or baileys!) fairly often and it was fine, though I'll warn you after such a long abstinence it didn't take much to go to my head !

I did, in moderation and on a full stomach, as long as the alcohol content in your blood is negligible it's fine!
