PPROM, GBS and preterm C-section

Based on a positive PPROM test and positive GBS swab both at 32 weeks. Drs recommend a C-section at 34 weeks as the risk of infection outweighs the risk of delivering early at late preterm. I opted for C-section as I did not want to get induced (I was induced with my first and it ended up in an emergency C-section).

My symptoms haven't worsened and I'm being closely monitored at the hospital 2-3 times a week. I'm naturally apprehensive about the early delivery.

I'm hoping to hear any of your experiences either with PPROM, GBS, early delivery or all of the above.

I'm now 33weeks and my C-section is booked in for next week.

i suppose mine is slightly different experience due to gestation by 4weeks, but i had PPROM at 36weeks, had to stay in 24hours to be closely monitored just incase i went into labour(i didn't) they discharged me next day and sent me home with some antibiotics, and 4 days later which was a Saturday, whilst on my way to triage for ctg monitoring on baby is when i suddenly went into labour! well he was born with jaundice and turns out my placenta had a "foul smell" to it the midwide said so they sent it off for testing but i never got those results back to be honest so who know's 🤷🏻‍♀️ when looking back they should of immediatly started me on antibiotics, not left me over 24hours! have you been given any antibiotics? x

I had PPROM and immediate contractions at 34 weeks. DD does have some health issues but caused entirely by the vaginal birth (she got stuck and was briefly deprived of oxygen). She would have been totally fine with a C section.

She didn’t have GBS but a friend’s baby did (found post birth) and had IV antibiotics after birth. Totally fine as far as I am aware.

Had pprom and had daughter at 24w. During labour fever seemingly came from nowhere, transpired I had sepsis. Poor daughter did too. Spent 4 months in the NICU. You’d never know to look at her! You’ve hit the “magic 28w” as my OB referred to it in terms of lung development. It isn’t ideal but I’d be guided by the drs. The sepsis was the toughest thing for my daughter to fight and really impacted on other things. For example, her body was so consumed with trying to fight the infection that she ended up intubated for far longer than normal and really struggled to come off it.

and forgot to mention, if i hadn't of gone into labour by the monday anyway, i would of had to go in for an induction because of infection risk! So was 5 days in total from water breaking to baby been born, had to stay in for 6 days after too because i became unwell after having him, they treated him with iv antibiotics as soon as he was born to be on the safe side they said, and like i mentioned he was born with jaundice too so he needs the uv light therapy.. I also had to take antibiotics myself because of how my placenta looked&smelt upon delivery.. x

I had PROM (not PPROM) at 38w and was not given a GBS test. Turns out I was GBS+ and DD1 contracted GBS sepsis during the birth. It was something like 30hrs from first water breaking to delivery and at no point was I given antibiotics 🙄 She spent two weeks in NICU and luckily seems to have no long term effects, but it was all a shitshow at the time. Are you having antibiotics already?

Are you getting steroids to mature your baby’s lungs? Can really make a difference to how much support they need.

@CAT2026 well that's good to hear that they have given you antibiotics 😊 i suppose are you just feeling overwhelmed by the situation of been faced with early delivery? as understandably it will make you feel anxious and worried about your baby as it's out of your control to what you probably had planned/visioned in the first place; Your just going to have to go with whatever the midwifes/doctors/consultants say as they probably know better than any of us, also everyone's experience of PPROM will be different to one another.. try look at it this way, by time you have your c-section you will be 34weeks, which is only 3weeks shy of been classed as full term so hopefully their won't be too much, if hardly any complications for you both 🤞🏻
