Shaving before c section

This probably sounds ridiculous but, do you shave your bikini line before an elective c section or will it cause irritation / shavers rash that could then interfere with the healing process as it could become itchy which could the cause infection?

What have other people done or been advised to do regarding this?

Why ?

you are having major surgery why does you fanny need to be shaved for ?

I did. And for the PP, the incision is made right on the panty line so the surgeon would need to shave it anyway.

Because she isn’t having an ear operation.

I did the usual wax I normally do. No medical requirements to remove anything though, and no rash issues.

And did you find it became itchy at all after and interfered with the healing?

I ended up having an emergency C-section and my lovely surgeon ended up shaving me. I know you can’t help it but do not worry. There will be nothing there that they have not seen. Wishing you a healthy delivery and recovery 💐

Bikini line, as it alongside legs? That won't affect healing. They will shave where they need to cut when prepping you, and it will be done in a sterile way so I would trim rather than shaving, if you feel the need. Yes it can meansome in grown hairs as it grows back, but honestly with the nerves making the area numb afterwards so a good while, it doesn't matter.

No - the incision line is very narrow. The main thing is to keep it clean and dry to minimise the chance of infection.

The nurse shaved me- just the bit anywhere near the incision You do not need to shave anywhere else. And no there is no irritation afterwards.

i had a full stem to stern shave with my third c/s, it certainly made cleaning up a breeze. if it was a bit itchy i was too busy to notice.

Lots of women have emergency CS, so everyone could be in this situation, and they won't care. Do whatever you want.

I had an emergency C section. I had waxed (as usual) before delivery. But, my usual waxing wasn’t low enough for the section cut so the midwife shaved a bit more off the top.

I wax because I get terrible ingrown hairs shaving my bikini line. But didn’t have any issues with regrowth other than one ingrown hair along my stitch line. Didn’t cause any issues though, I just panicked because I thought it was infected!

Emergency C section so shaved by nurse. No irritation and healed well.

If anything needs to be shaved it’ll be done as part of pre op prep.

Nurse did mine ….. 24 years ago…..it has never grown back.

Totally unnecessary and no I didn’t.

1st emergency C section I was shaved with a dry razor by medical staff. I had 3 subsequent CS and because I couldn't see my bikini line had to ask DH to do it. No problems with healing with any of them.
