Who has or will eat/bury/make art with their placenta?

I know some people eat their placentas or have it encapsulated and then eat in as a crushed powder in pill form, others make art with it (placenta prints) and others bury it in their garden underneath a newly-planted tree or bush.

Has anyone here done anything similar with their placenta, or plan to? Just curious how common a practice it is!

I'm planning on taking mine home, chucking out the gristly bits, and freezing it and whizzing parts up with orange juice and knocking it back.

Basically I've been craving protein (great slabs of meat, fish, tofu) all pregnancy, feeling exhausted, and I get bad seasonal depression which is timed to kick in about 2 weeks after I give birth - I will try anything to be as hormonally stable as possible beforehand!

Like most of my birth plans, I also reserve the right to wuss out and just throwing it out!

I know one woman who has eaten quite a bit of hers, mainly in the capsule form, but that sounds like a lot of hassle and I reckon hormonal benefit is probably better all at once.

Ha ha! Yeah, a 'placenta smoothie' probably doesn't sound very appealing (read: meat smoothie) but I've heard several people swear by it. They say if you add enough berry fruits and juice that you can't even taste it and the red berries cover up the sight of blood.

Like I said, I like the idea but I'm not sure I can bring myself to actually prepare it and I don't know if anyone else will either. MAYBE my best friend who is acting as my doula but then that means I'll have to do it for her when I act as doula at her next birth! Wonder if I can come down with a strange illness that strictly prohibits the handling and chopping of human afterbirth products? LOL
