First period after childbirth

OK, sorry for TMI....

I had a baby 5 weeks ago. No complications.

My loss stopped after about 3 weeks.

But, in the last 48 hours, I am bleeding reasonably heavily (I'd liken it to a heavy period)... Could it just be that it's my first period? I wasn't expecting one quite so soon....

I'm breast feeding. Not sure if this would make any difference?

Thanks,

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

hmmmmm.. usually with exclusive breastfeeding you would have more of a delay with getting your periods back

did you have a vaginal birth?

is the loss full of clots? any pain? are you using tampax or pads and have you had a check up yet

littleducks · 24/06/2008 20:40

i would mention it at 6 week check up definately. Do you feel well?

Unfortunately I am exclusively bfing haad a bleed just pre 6 week check and now at 12 weeks post partum. looks like periods are back

Congratualtions! I would doubt it is a period, especially if you are bf. With DD2 my bleeding pretty much stopped after about 2-3 weeks or so, then by the time I went for my 6 week check I was bleeding quite heavily again, I remember saying with some surprise to the dr that I thought I had my period. As it was my periods did not in fact start again until about 9 months after birth. I don't know why I started bleeding again at around 5 / 6 weeks. I wasn't in any pain or anything and no infection and really did think it was a period but it wasn't. It stopped after a few days. I had a section though, but I'm not sure that makes a difference by that stage. Anyway, if you are concerned, discuss with your dr at your check up.

I think you should get checked. My periods came back a couple of months with bfeeding singletons. So while I was still feeding, but not that early.

Id get it checked if you;re worried. My period still hasnt arrived 4 months on.....hope im not pregnant....

I had first period at 4.5 weeks (exbf). very disappointed as books had said no period while bf, someone said it could just be lochia returning. but it came back every 4 weeks since then (now 20 weeks and still ex bf), so I guess some of us are just unlucky

Thanks for all the replies. It sounds like the same as nellytheelephant... I had a CS too...

It's still here, but lighter today - but will mention it at my 6 week check up...
