I'm having a tough week. Baby arrived after a 40 hour labour (thought those were a fucking myth...) and setting alight to our "birth plan". My body is a mess, feeding is hard going and he won't be put down so I'm knackered. Standard new born stuff!

I am so incredibly grateful for all the midwives who have been involved in mine and my babies care this week. I've seen A LOT of them and whilst it's clear that maternity services are horribly stretched, I cannot fault the professionalism, compassion, knowledge and resilience with which they've applied themselves. Every single one has made me feel cared for and clearly genuinely cares about women and babies.

Reading about shoddy maternity services was quite stressful during pregnancy so I just wanted to put this out there. I'd love to hear about your positive experience of care, even if the other details ended up being a bit of a shit show like mine 😂

Congrats OP! :)
I had some amazing midwives but also less good experiences through the birth of DS. My labour started Friday afternoon and he was born Monday afternoon. Some were incredibly kind and compassionate - I guess that’s why they went into the job. Also had one who seemed jaded, wasn’t very nice and wanted to give me drugs (I think so she wouldn’t have to deal with me that night). At one point I asked for a c-section and one midwife’s response was ‘it’s called labour for a reason’.
Eventually had an emergency c section.

Congratulations! My labour was over 48 hours too so I totally sympathise on the exhaustion. The lack of sleep or food for 2 days made everything so much harder.

My main midwife was amazing. She was a bundle of positivity and made me feel like I could smash it 😋

I'm so glad you both had some good experiences. We've just been back in and seen another amazing lady.
