Four months after C-section, scar still red and dark, normal?

I’m 4 months PP after an elective c section. Healing for my scar was relatively okay, I had the knotted stitch at the end that would not dissolve and by week 3-4 I had it nipped out by a nurse and it healed over very well after that.

My problem is my scar still looks very red and dark. I’ve seen other scars of PP mums and by now theirs was slightly lighter in colour and looked way more discreet. Mine looks quite angry looking but has healed and is not sore. I’m wondering if it’s hypertrophic.
I’ve bought some silicone gel and have been applying twice a day…just wondered how long you all took to see a difference and if anyone else had a similar story where over time it got better?

Bumping the thread for you. My sections were so long ago that I can't really remember. But I think they were more faded than yours sounds. Hopefully the gel will settle it down.

I'm 5 months PP and was worried about this because I had an appendectomy in summer 2024 and the surgeon breezily told me the scar would completely disappear within a year but it healed raised and is still red and just makes my abdomen look like a mess tbh. I worried it is just the way my skin reacts to surgical scars.

However, I am using these religiously (and have since 6 weeks PP) - the much bigger elective c-section scar already looks considerably better than the appendectomy one and is starting to completely disappear in places - I'm really happy with it: https://frida.co.uk/products/c-section-silicone-scar-patches.
