When did you periods settle down after birth?

My baby is nearly 6 months old, but my periods are still being quite strange. I stopped breastfeeding at 3 months, and have had 2 proper periods since and both have been extremely long. I'm currently on day 13 of my period, and am desperate for it to end. My periods lasted 4 or 5 days before I got pregnant. Does anyone know if this is common or whether it's worth a visit to the GP. Also, can you ask your health visitor about this kind of thing, or is it just baby stuff only? Any advice appreciated, thanks, Tina

My periods didnt settle down for a year after I had my son, didnt have one til he was 3mths,then didnt have another til he was 5mths after that he was 8mths then 11mths they settled down by the time my son was 13mths. I was asked at one point if I might be pregnant again but no chance of that as I'd separated from my partner while I was pregnant & hadn't met anyone else. Think you can ask your health visitor about these things as they are there for mother & baby but its not very private with a room full of babies getting weighed so I would speak to your doctor. My periods would last between 4-8 days but that was normal for me before i'd fell pregnant.
