Hi,

Musgrove is our closest hospital and where we are currently booked for, however we have not had good experiences at maternity triage at all, and with the CQC report are worried it isn't safe for our baby

Has anyone given birth there recently and would be happy to share their thoughts?

I would consider the downsides of alternatives. The m5 is a busy road as is the a303, to get to Bristol Southmead is under an hour on the good day but add another at least on many, Weston super mare closer but not sure it has a better reputation. Exeter, same issue with the motorway plus traffic in Exeter but a bit closer, Yeovil? Again so much traffic.

Hey @Sunshineandlollipop just wandered what stage you're at or if you've given birth yet?
I've recently had my baby at Musgrove and just wanted to add my experience in case it's useful. Maternity services are clearly stretched, not helped by Yeovil being closed. On busy days this does have an impact, we ended up bumped for labour room and theatre despite being considered a priority. I also found triage and the community team hardest to engage with.
But once in hospital, I never felt unsafe. Every single one of the medics (and I saw a lot of them after a very long and complex labour, as well as every ward!) was exceptional, and the communication was very clear. I've also found that the postpartum care, mainly delivered in Bracken has been excellent. I didn't realise that was something even on offer but there is a real culture of caring for women and supporting their feeding journey whatever it may be, I felt so well taken care of and incredibly grateful.
So I think there are very issues with maternity care at Musgrove, as there is across the country but I would keep it in perspective.

I had 4 of my babies at musgrove but youngest is 11 so not recently. The staff were all lovely and the fetal medicine department were amazing but there were problems related to lack of funding/not enough staff/not enough space

With my youngest I went in with bleeding at 10pm but it was 9pm by the time the drs had decided to induce me and got it started. 4 hours later baby was in distress and had to come out by c-section. I think that could have been avoided if I had been induced earlier.

My 2nd youngest was born by c-section 52 hours after my waters broke when he was supposed to have been born by c-section the previous day.

Recently musgrove has been in the news for having mould and leaks in the building.
