i had my first baby at 39+3 so thought this one would be earlier-bit no such luck yet. Saturday night i had labour like pain every 3 minutes for about an hour then nothing at all. Bump is so low and the baby is engaged according to the midwife..i just thought second time round if you get pain thats it, its labour..anyone had any similar experience?

Look on the due in June thread, loads of us in the same situation. Sympathies with you.

DC2 i was in on/off labour for two weeks, with on/off show for the last week... we were on holiday 5 hours from home (yeah, I know, who goes on holiday two weeks before their due date...), and i even rang the hospital to ask if they could deliver if i went into established labour (it was only across the road but i was mildly terrified as VBAC). in the end i held on until we got home, went to bed, and was woken at 6am by my waters breaking.
i'm still a bit disappointed now that i didn't get to give birth on holiday - would have been a lovely start! i had everyone following me around for two weeks (except dh who kept going skiing) asking me if i wanted to go to the hospital... i spent the whole time timing braxton hicks surreptitiously, trying to smile through the pain...
good luck and hope you don't have to wait a fortnight!!

Thanks guys...ive been getting lots and lots of branston pickles-thats what dh calls them! and they are so uncomfortable as it feels like the babys gonna burst out. Anyway will have a look at the june thread...

Hi Saucy I'm in a similar position- had a false labour last week and they admitted me to hosp as only 36 +1 at the time, got to 3cm dilated then it all stopped. Had period pain on and off ever since and have had a show but this baby seems quite happy where it is for the moment! Drat

So nothing specific to say other than you're not alone

Good luck, hope we'll be reading your birth announcement soon x

Oh wow minkus, you poor thing, the waiting must be antagonising. Ive only got 3 days left til due date, i cant believe im still pregnant lol. I thought you only dilate when real labour starts!?

Apparently not (bugger and dash it all)

MW did say that after having one baby the cervix never closes up fully again and is always about 0.5-1cm dilated for ever more. Also that it's not unusual for women to walk round at 3cm dilated for a few weeks before real labour starts. But that once you start dilating, even if only a few cms, it doesn't shrink back again which is reasuuring to know. You could be dilating now but not realising it, I reckon that all the activity with branston pickles lol and pains on Saturday must have had some effect for you. Hopefully you'll get to 8cm without realising it, do an almighty great sneeze and the baby will pop out

Are your bh's getting more painful? I had my first baby at 38+6 so like you am hoping this one might be a bit early too

SaucyMoo · 22/06/2008 22:14
