Gave birth about 6 weeks ago and had 1st degree tear which was not stitched. It hasn't healed properly - doesn't bleed or anything it's just healed separated IYSWIM. Just been to the (not very helpful) GP who has referred me to the gynaecologist but said she didn't know what they would do. Can anyone advise? Will I need an op?

Obviously nothing happening in the bedroom department in the meantime....

So what normally happens is the wound will be assessed to see whether it's better to stitch it or not. Obviously if it's just unsightly and not painful it may be better to leave it.

Even if you do need an op it'll be quick and mostly painless though. First degree tears have very good outcomes.

Well done you for actually thinking about having sex after only six weeks though - you are doing much better than I did and I had a caesarian

A similar thing has happened to me, gave birth 8 weeks ago. I have a small tear in my labia which wasn't stitched, it doesn't hurt and healed really well but I just dont feel myself 'downthere'
My midwife said I could go back for surgery to have the edges made raw again and then stitched.
Am gonna pluck up the courage and ask my doctor about it. Just when you think its all over
