Bleeding again almost 4 weeks postpartum?

Hi all,

I had a c section just under 4 weeks ago and all went well and I have recovered very well and feel almost completely back to normal.

My postpartum bleeding lasted around 10 days and had completely stopped (not had any bleeding at all for well over a week) but it seems to have started up again in the last few days. On Tuesday while I was out I had a horrrible gushing feeling like a heavy period and this has continued on and off for three days.

There is no pain and the blood is light brown, or reddy yellow. I am combi feeding, not sure if this is relevant!

I had a period 4 weeks after my c section, was combi feeding 🙃 cruel but sadly true. GP looked at me like I was mental for thinking it was something other than a period.

Yep- had pretty much the same with my first five or take. The bleeding can be pretty stop start, especially if you overdo it. You can feel fine after a c-section but do still need to let your body heal internally. To this day I don’t know exactly when my bleeding stopped and first period started. Best to take it easy and track your bleeding so you can figure out properly when you are having true periods again.

Hi, thanks. Was is like a normal period for you? This bleeding isn’t really like a period at all in colour or consistency so I’d be surprised if it was. I did have the copper coil fitted during the c section so not sure if it could even be related to that🫠

I had a period straight after post partum bleeding. It was more like continuation of post partum bleeding. All my periods were very heavy and horrible the first year after giving birth.

Maybe check in with midwife/gp to see if all sounds normal? I've never had the coil so couldn't say how that might change things.

Yes, I had exactly that after my second C section (including the gushing feeling). The bleeding then went on for a while in a stop start way.

Obviously do have it checked if there are any signs of infection (feeling unwell, temperature, abdominal pain, foul smelling discharge, etc).

it’s probably not a period, mine didnt finish until 7 weeks after. it did stop start a lot though

Have you been doing more? As mine would sometimes start again when I was very active?

Otherwise I think it’s your period, mine came back around 5 weeks pp and the first one wasn’t like my normal period at all, they were much lighter. Second one was horribly heavy!
