When was your first period after birth?

So I'm currently 9+3 weeks pp. I breastfed exclusively for 1 week, then combi-fed for a following 3 weeks, since then it's been formula only.
I still haven't had my period yet, I know it can take longer when you've breastfed, although I didn't do it for that long!
Just wondering when others periods first came back?
I bled for about 4 weeks pp. With my other baby my period came back at 9+2. So I'm giving this one until I'm 12w then I'll investigate 🙃

Mine didn't come back until 9 months pp! I was breastfeeding though, and was a bit miffed because I hoped they'd hold off a bit longer.

Oh wow, nice not having it for that long though ! I'm not keen on them returning but it'll just be nice to track them again. It's the unknown I don't like!

4 months with my first.

3 months with my second.

And I exclusively breastfed both (still feeding my 2.5 year old!). So annoyed that they came back so soon!

AOBMGB · 29/01/2026 09:08

Just had my first one this week and my baby is 9.5 months! But I’m exclusively breastfeeding if that makes a difference. Was hoping to have a bit longer to be honest 😂

TeaRoseTallulah · 29/01/2026 09:08

Nearly a year,I wasn't bf either.

LadyDanburysHat · 29/01/2026 09:12

With my first two who were breastfed for 2 weeks and 4 weeks, it was 6 months. My third was breastfed for a year and it as a year.

That's crazy. I always thought it was breastfeeding that delayed it !
I'd be quite happy with no period for a year..as long as I'm not pregnant again 🤣

Edited

Yep I was similar- 5 months DS and 4 months DD (she slept a bit better) both ebf!

MumtoGPW · 29/01/2026 09:18

I breastfed dc1 till 20 months and weaned at 4 months (as was the advice then). Within 4 weeks of weaning had my period back.
With dt bf till 12 months and weaned at 6 months and again within 4 weeks had my first period.
So in my case I assume the reduced bf caused the return but who knows.

Octaviathethird · 29/01/2026 09:20

Mine came back straight away, at 4 weeks, even though I was breastfeeding!

Salteddough · 29/01/2026 09:27

5 months, ebf.

My kids are adults now - but I didn't have a period at all in between the two children. I BF the first for 8 months - then conceived 2nd child when 1st was about 19 months old. No period at all - in fact I was concerned I wouldn't be able to conceive at all. The mid wife confirmed I would of still been ovulating even without a bleed. Then after 2nd child - again BF for about 9 months I probably have a period after 9-10 months. So in total I was period free for about 3 1/2 years.

I think that's pretty unusual and I had been to GP about it. My cycle was always unpredictable though even before pregnancy.

OtterlyAstounding · 29/01/2026 09:29

Fifteen months with my first, and 13 months with my second! But I was exclusively BFing until 6 months, and then still BFing frequently (including two night feeds) after that.

RandomMess · 29/01/2026 09:34

6 weeks with my eldest, bottle fed.

4 months with my 2nd when I stopped breastfeeding

6 weeks with my 3rd despite exclusive breastfeeding 😭

With my 4th I had the Mirena fitted at 2/3 weeks PP (absolute earliest you can) and bled daily for 6 months then still had light periods 😭

CaribbeanCupcake · 29/01/2026 09:36

10weeks and mine was formula fed

Floff1 · 29/01/2026 12:54

Thanks all for the replies.

It's funny how every is so completely different, despite bottle or breastfed.

I'd love to not have a period for a year 🤣
Did anyone do a pregnancy test in that time of waiting for it to appear?

I have a 13 month age gap with my two youngest 🤣 think I had two periods before I conceived again. Waiting for a referral to have my tubes tied, 4 babies is enough for me!

I was very ill which might have delayed it.

user2848502016 · 29/01/2026 17:41

I didn’t get one until i was down to 1 breast feeds a day - so around 10-12 months!

CloakedInGucci · 29/01/2026 17:50

11 months and 9 months

FilipeFlop · 29/01/2026 18:23

19 months!

Trifletree · 29/01/2026 18:35

I exclusively expressed milk for 6 months then switched to formula. Stopped my night pumping session at 2 months I think, periods came back at 4 months.

PShelp · 29/01/2026 18:48

14 months for my first, my second is about to turn 1 and no sign yet!

hearts1989g · 29/01/2026 18:58

4 months!
