Vbac or another elective c section

Hi guys,

I'm looking for some advice/experience.

I had a elective in Jan 2023 due to my son being breech.

I am now 34 weeks pregnant and wanting to try a vbac. But after my consultant apt today I am now in two minds.

He has booked me in for an elective at 41 weeks because he said being induced risks uterine rupture by 1 in 50. If I go naturally in labour then great.

I don't know why I'm writing this post but I now don't know if I should have an elective. 🫣

Its entirely up to you. You've had a good gap between births so your risk of rupture would be quite low at this point. Are you able to discuss TOLAC? Basically Trial of Labour after CSection.. where you and your midwife/consultant come up with a plan e.g. you would like to try for a VBAC but if XYZ happens then you'd switch to an elective csection.

I had a VBAC after a caesarean (emergency though). It was a million times easier and I recovered much quicker.

Do you WANT a VBAC? There are induction methods, such as the Foley balloon thing, which don't force contractions.

I had a CS because of a footling breech baby and elected to have a cs the second time around because I'm my specific circumstances the chance of a successful VBAC was something like 60% which felt too low for me.

Frame it more, if you want a VBAC this is option 1 if you go into labour naturally. If it doesn’t happen by 41 it’s C section.

If you are keen for that VBAC so everything you can to bring on labour and then let fate happen?

Oh god don't even risk it

Just have a second section

I was in exactly the same boat as you and took the second section

No regrets

My VBAC recovery was 1000x easier than my elective section recovery. Hope you have a good experience whatever you choose!
