DD is 3 1/2 weeks old now and i still have post birth bleeding, not incredibly heavy but enough to need a sanitary towel. It's still bright red - is this normal? Have had enough of wearing sanitary towels! Thanks

Yep 4-6 weeks is common. As long as it's not getting heavier or is smelly it's fine.

Hmmm, I think it can go on for up to 6 weeks or so. Mine was a good 4 weeks.

Sorry! It has been getting lighter though hasn't it?

solo · 11/06/2008 13:42

6 weeks for me both times, then straight into my first period!!!

doodleboo · 11/06/2008 13:44

A bit lighter yes. I'm hoping the periods will hold off for a bit as i'm breastfeeding. I'd forgotten how rubbish they are! Glad to hear i am normal! All the books seem to say 2weeks...

Does it get worse with each baby? DD is my second and it's definitely gone on longer this time.

If its getting lighter then you're fine. Dunno what books you've been reading though - 2 weeks is very optimistic!

cmotdibbler · 11/06/2008 13:48

Mine went on for 12 weeks - but I was told 6 weeks was perfectly normal.

VictorianSqualor · 11/06/2008 13:57

Mine came and went with every baby.
Are you breastfeeding? Have you been doing a lot?
If the blood flow increases at any point, rest.
If you are BFing you might find that whe you feed you pass more, it's related to the uterus contracting.

Yep! I breast fed for 18 months with Ds and am approaching 18 months now with Dd. Sorry, but not everyone manages not to get their periods back because they're breast feeding! bummer huh?!

Amapoleon · 11/06/2008 14:10

6 weeks for me, 2 week break and then period started again, both times. So much for breastfeeding!
