DSis having prosteria labour - any positive stories?

My sister has been in labour since yesterday. My DM is having kittens with her! Please can you tell me some good news stories that I can calm her down with?

Currently she's been given an epidural and been left for an hour to see if the head comes down. They are talking CS if it doesn't.

posterior - back to back?

DS was back to back and i delivered him without a CS

not sure what effect an epidural will have about whether she can move around or not, as i found that really helped

being upright and mobile, squatting etc

also getting on her hands and knees is good if she can

no advice...other than hands and knees...

however...my ds2 was posterior and my DH says its was amazing to watch as he was born as he said suddenly my tummy appeared to collapse - more so than with ds1 and 3 who were anterior.

however...my tummy did not stay in the collapsed position!!!!

obviously being kept up by worried dm has made my spelling go to pot - what was I thinking!!! Should have just said back to back!

How long did your labours take? So far she's been on the deliver ward for about 18 hours and was 5cm on arrival.

My ds1 was back to back.

I went on the birth ball for a bit then when it got too much I laid on the bed and the MW's kept turning me from side to side.

In fact when he decended, he decided to go back up and lay diagonally.
The doctors were getting rather concerned and gave me half an hour but I managed to get him out.

I forgot he needed forceps.

i was in active labour for 10 hours

arrived at hospital 3 cm dilated at 7.00 pm ish and delivered DS at 6 am ish

dd1 was posterior and I had 2 days of what they call pre-labour (contractions every 10 minutes but not dilated further than 3cm) then 18 hours of full blown labour before dd1 arrived.

After 8 hours full on labour - contractions every 2-3 minutes I hadn't dilated to more than 5cm, and I ended up with an epidural, syntocin, but dd did come out without a CS in the end.

Good luck to your sis - posterior labour is unbelievably painful. I've done it the other way now, and it was so manageable by comparison I failed to call the midwives till the last minute and nearly had dp delivering the baby!!!

no forceps/ventouse for me

took me an hour to push him out

she needs to be upright and moving, if possible or leaning on the back of the bed or on a birth ball. with an epidural her labour is limited

i delivered a posterior baby without c,s and she remained posterior for the whole labour and delivery.

if she can be moved from side to side and have some ctx on her hands and knees, some on her side, some on her back and some on her other side that can sometimes help baby rotate

she will need lots of help to do that if she has a full epidural.

i had a back to back labour, it lasted and hours and a half, 45 mins of that was contractions and 6 mins were pushing, ds turned as he was coming out, is it her 1st baby?

my proper labour was the shortes of my 3 boys- 4hours from waters breaking!

i had 18 hours of latent labour, then 3 hours 15 of active labour , from 3 cm to delivery. so was quick. but i had been upright for the whole time, and was sat up on the bed rather than lying down..

I had a back to back, about 24 hours early labour. Then about 14 hours of active labour.

I managed to get him out in the end!! Well with the help of a ventouse.

Birthing ball helped me, and midwives kept making me go and shower, at the time not impressed, but am sure it helped!

Pidge - she sounds a like like yours. Had 3 days of pre labour - worse at night so not slept for 4 nights.

It is her first baby, think she was prepared for a hard time as my dc1 and dm dc1 we both pretty long and drawn out but nothing like this!

loler - the pre-labour is what did for me, I did everything you're supposed to, being up and about, mobile etc. But 2 nights with zero sleep due to contractions every 10 minutes, and throwing up everywhere, so not a lot of food intake either, not to mention being told I wasn't actually in labour yet because I wasn't 3cm. Miserable, frankly!!!

And even with the full on contractions every 2 minutes - the midwife at one point said she thought I might be fully dilated, then when she checked she found I was only 5cm. . That's when I had the epidural and syntocin to move things along. Not at all what I'd hoped for. And I feel lucky that dd DID come out without any other intervention in the end.

Anyway, fingers crossed for your sis. Posterior labour can be a long haul. She may well find that both she and the baby are utterly exhausted which of course has an impact on feeding and all that stuff.

Sometimes with a first baby the head can become a little jammed if OP.
As Lulumama says it will limit what she can do if she has been given an epidural.
I hope she manages to have a VB, it will be a lovely achievement if so

Emilia Rose was born at 1pm by foreceps. Both doing well.

Can I suggest that she take her DD to a Cranial Osteopath once they're home?

and make sure your sister has a babymoon, lots of feeding , cuddling and loving that baby. you know the drill

Oooooh congratulations, what lovely news. Well done to your sis and welcome to the baby.

Definitely recommend lots of rest and cuddles with the babe to get over the long and exhausting labour.
