Life threatening heart condition after c-section

this is about my sister who had twin boys a week ago through IVF. Shortly after her c section she was gasping for air and had difficulty breathing. She was shifted to another hospital who gave her initial treatment and put her on ventilator. She was diagnosed with peripartum cardiomyopathy. She is now suffering from pulmonary edema, ventricular heart failure, and ARDS. Is there any medical professional here who can advice as to how much is her chance to survive and recover. We have never heard of any of these conditions after childbirth. Is there anyone here who has been through ppcm or ARDS after c section and has recovered? Doctors are not giving much hope and I guess I am just looking for straws to clutch on as long as its possible.

How terribly sad. I do hope she recovers. Flowers

So sorry to hear all your sister and family are dealing with.

PPCM is one of the more rarer risks in pregnancy so you might not find anyone on here who can help, but hopefully someone with more knowledge will come along.

I'm so sorry your sister is going through this and wish she makes a full recovery.

My dhs cousin had this. She had preclamsia in late pregnancy which she managed well. Because of this she had a c section and fell seriously ill within a week of giving birth. They diagnosed the heart condition and she was in hospital for around a month. She had to take some meds, sorry I don't know exactly what but slowly she was back to "normal" again. It did take awhile though but she is now working and her DD is now 8 years old . She has regular heart check ups and is still on some meds but she is living a normal and healthy life. She didn't have anymore children as the risk is too high.

Obviously it was an extremely difficult and scary time for everyone. We felt helpless and we all tried to support her and her DP as much as we could. DH has a large extended family that are very close so we all did our bit to help. We were told at the time that it's common in African ethnicities which dhs family is.

Hugs to you and your sister. Hoping she pulls through.
