length of time in hospital

Asssuming you have an uncomplicated birth and both mum and child are fine. How long to you stay in hosptial for?

I stayed in overnight with DD and apparently it is 6 hours for the second. Don't know how true that is though as I'm due to be induced next week so will be in there longer.

if it is not your first you will be out before the day is through!! beds at a premium it seems.

A friend of mine recently had twins by c section and was only in for 2 nights so unless there is some complication be prepared to be thrown out asap.

Hi it's my first.

I was out within 4 hours of delivering DC4 - was lucky that there happened to be someone around to do the paediatric check over before we left. Was out 6 hours after DC3.

When I had my first, he was born at 3.52 am and I was 15. I was offerd the choice of going home that afternoon (approximately 12 hrs after birth) or staying in over night. i stayed over night as I was having trouble getting him latched (he kept sticking his tongue out) and I knew that my Mum wa against me feeding him, so would not help me with this.

I had a trouble free, straight forward 6 and a half hour labour.

I have gone on to have 4 more dc all at home, and when I say that people think I must have had a hard time in hospital, but I had no complaints! I think the hardest thing is hearing all the babies crying at different times, which stopped me from sleeping!

I guess each experience is different, and it will probably also depend on what time of day your lo is born.

I think so much depends on how you feel and how much you hate hospitals - I got far more rest at home than I would have done on a post-natal ward with other babies crying as well as my own.

1st was a week due to C section
2nd would have been less than 6 hours, but was next day because DD2 was only 5lb 3oz and they wanted to checkfeeding.

I asked this question at my antenatal classes and was told the following:

*No complications - Could be as quick as 6 hours. However they want to check the baby before you leave and only really do that btw 8 - 6pm. So if you give birth at 11pm, you'll probably be staying the night and leaving the next day. But if you give birth at 8am, you may be home same day!

*C Section (emergency or othewise) - 48 hours

*Complications - Who knows, but as you can probably tell, hosps seem to want you out PDQ!

over night with dd1 and dd2 but the only reason it was so long with dd2 was that she had v low blood sugar and they needed to be sure she was okay.

dd1 was born at 11 and dd2 at about 10ish. was out by dinner time the next day with both

Inductoin - 50 hours in hospital prior to birth
Has c section Friday late evening
Was home by lunch time on the Monday
