Had dd on Thursday at about 11pm. Home a few hours later. The afterpains are a NIGHTMARE. The midwife said they'd feel a bit like period pains but they're full on late labour contractions only minus the TENs/gas and air.

Please tell me they stop soon?

(this is 3rd child, these are way worse than previously)

Diclofenac is absolutely the best sorter outer of afterpains - It's used for pain relief post C/S so is safe

I agree totally with mears suggestion. Co-codamol after dd made me horribly constipated and the pain from that was 100x worse than the afterpains!

After ds2 was born (at home), my lovely midwife (also personal friend) dosed me up with paracetamol and nurofen and advised me to take them regularly for a few days (not just as pain gets bad). Worked beautifully.

Ds2 was my third child too.

Huge sympathies tass. I had these 2 weeks ago with DC4 and took Paracetamol/Codeine that the pharmacist suggested and my midwife OK'd. I took them 3 times a day and the pains were manageable without pain killers after about 3/4 days - the first 24 hours is the worst.

Walking about does ease them off (like with labour) but as my afterpains mostly kicked in when baby latched on it was a wee bit difficult. To add insult to injury, I had to sit on my piles whilst enduring the bloody things!
