Hi! I have heard amazing things about the North Middlesex home birth team - but I wonder if anyone here has had any experiences?

I know the hospital hasn’t had the best rep. I had my first baby at hospital in UCLH and great experience.

any advice would be helpful

thanks!

I don’t have experience with this trust but I recently had a Homebirth with another London trust.

First thing is that it’s great that you’ve heard positive things about them! Recommendations are everything. Worth asking around if there are any doula’s to speak to as they often work with Homebirths.

with this recent mother and baby death in the news, what struck me was how under experienced the midwives sounded and the HB team didn’t sound well organised or have good (any?) communication skills. The mother was in no position to give informed consent. In my opinion, these weren’t avoidable deaths due to risky Homebirth, this was sheer medical negligence

I spoke with multiple midwives on our team about my personal risk factors and what would be advised to minimise this. What “out of guidances” they would reasonably support and which they would advise strongly against. We discussed every eventuality that could result in being transferred to hospital. It was clear that this was a well run, experienced team of midwives who were passionate about homebirth, for the right reasons. They told me exactly what equipment they carried for emergencies and what steps they would take whilst waiting for an ambulance.

id recommend just asking to speak to someone on the HB team and asking lots of questions so you can get a feel for them.
