Has anyone got any experience of giving birth here?
What's it like?
Is it clean?
Do you get private rooms and can partners stay over?

no idea, but what a great name for a maternity hospital!

davidtennantsmistress · 01/06/2008 19:28

yes I have.

(althou 2/5 years ago, but all I can say is it was bloody fantastic then. very clean, very modern (well I thought so) M/W's were all lovely - both pre n post natal. very keen on BF up there thou.

my XH didn't stay over - was gone by about 9pm so I could rest, there is generally 4 people to a room, (I had a pte room for 2 nights as DS was in the box for his jaundice) but when I was in I had the whole big room to myself, which was a little lonely thou - next room had a few in - I think they tend to keep BF and FF mothers separate, and then section mothers separate again for some reason.

the birthing rooms were very comfy. all ensuite. (have the baby in them thou then go to the other end of the unit.) unit is very secure.

(could well have all changed by now but I loved it there) I thought is was good for the meals as well but if you read todays daily express the kitchens had a v v poor write up v poor.

davidtennantsmistress · 01/06/2008 19:30

oh and btw, when XH didn't turn up at the allocated 9am time i'd set him (was a bit horrid but with no other family was v lonely) the m.w's rang and rang him so he'd get his butt up to the hospital.

hairyspiders · 01/06/2008 19:35

Thank you so much DTM! COuld your XH have stayed over if he wanted?

I've missed my hospital tour thing so i'm not going to have a chance to look at the place. I know this is an odd question but are there sort of bars to hang on to if you want to squat? Also do they have birthing balls and comfy places to give birth on the floor if you want.

Incidentally does David Tennant have room for another do you think?

er yes to the balls, er no to the squat things - well you can squat on the bed if you choose to. comfy on the floor - tbh I was on the bed the whole time, I can't see them putting things on teh floor for you to have the baby. there is a birthing bath thingy for the water. all rooms are linked to the G&A mains (I know used it loads! lol) once you're in the water thou they won't let u have the epidural/G&A if iirc.

not sure if they'd let XH stop the night tbh, as DS was born at 2.37am and they sent him home around 4am. so can't honestly say - all I know is take loads of 20p's for the phone, and also get your guests to park by the kwik save (shows how long it was since I was there! lol) as it's obv free - we spent soooooo much money on parking in the car park.

over all thou I had a v positive exp there.

davidtennantsmistress · 01/06/2008 19:41

room for another? (i'm not in the area anymore, if I was then you could have stayed with me - I literally could see the hospital from my house on cashfields.)

if DT has any rooms in his house - well! lol..... i'd be there quicker than that!

hairyspiders · 01/06/2008 19:43

The good news is the parking charges have reduced when I was there the other week (God bless the Welsh Assembly). What's a G&A? If it was a G&T i'd be a happy girl

anytime, if I were you thou i'd try to get an have a look around, can you arrange a visit with your M.w quickly - (as I say I was ther 2.5 years ago) my m.w's covered st davids & haverford I had a carol I think it was?? (can't remember all their names thou - and one who i'll call as a big old bird - and I don't mean that nastily but she was old school. firm stock, thick set arms that sort! (told me I wasn't in labour & it didn't hurt! wtf!)

hairyspiders · 01/06/2008 20:00
