This is kind of a follow on from my other thread about getting what I want in hospital.
Just in case baby arrives before my tour of the hospital (tour planned for monday, baby due tues!!!)
can anyone who has been there share their experiences with me? especially any of you who have been there recently...

I had ds there almost 7 years ago - think it has changed since then. at one time I was on a feedback group consisting of newish mums, local NCT teachers, HV's midwives etc.

Had DS1 there about 5 years ago and I'm afraid I had what at the time I considered a very unsatisfactory experience - whole stream of unhelpful midwives (incl. one who couldn't speak English), loads of unexplained medical intervention, failed ventouse and finally an emergency c-section. I was left on a trolley in recovery for what seemed like ages - no-one bothered to come and see me.
Ward was noisy and dirty, (TV on at 1 am in the morning), consultants rude and I got a scar infection and ended up back in 10 days later .

Think I was traumatised by the whole experience. When I got pregnant with No.2 I hired an independent midwife and went to Guildford which was an altogether much better experience.

That said, I know lots of people who have given birth there recently, and have nothing but praise......

Hi - I had my baby boy there 2 years ago! My experience overall was a positive one. I ended up with emergency c-section, but had great midwives (apart from one!) and very good aftercare. I am due to have my second baby at beginning of April and Leeds General Infirmary and likewise I have heard plenty of negative aswell as plenty of positive stories. I wonder if all hospitals are therefore the same!

thank you for all you replies... i guess it's the same anywhere, some people will end up with a really good experience, and unfortunately others don't.

I don't know why I am worrying about it really, after all, I can't change my mind now can i?

Starlover - I am sure it will be fine - sorry if my post seemed very negative. I think it HAS changed a lot in the last few years.

Where do you live - are you near Redhill?

Good luck anyway.

I've had 3 there in the last 4 years, most recent 12 weeks ago. All far from ideal labours, ventouse, then ventouse in theatre after 5 hours pushing then emergency section. On the whole happy particularly this last one which ended up as a section but was dealt with very efficiently, my probs have all been due to the positions of the babies and their size rather than the care I received. Good luck, its not all bad! (and DH started work there last week)
