39 weeks - think my baby has turned

Hi - I’m not sure what to do/who to speak to so looking for advice if anyone has been in the same position?
A growth scan at 36 weeks showed my baby was frank breech after being head down all the way through pregnancy. Two days later when I went for a consultation about an ECV, they’d turned back head down.
This week, I’ve been feeling movements in odd places: hiccups near my hip, what feels like kicks rather than head rolls low in my abdomen and also having movements on both sides of my bump at the same time. I’m really worried my baby is an unstable lie and I may go into labour at any point. I’ve phoned to speak to my midwife this morning and was told someone would call back but no-one has. What should I do? Is a phone call to triage needed?

I would call triage for advice. A transverse lie would be an emergency.

When is your next midwife appointment?

Sunflower654 · 29/07/2025 19:12

I don’t have an appointment until 40+3 now.

This is my concern. Baby definitely doesn’t feel transverse at this moment but for some of yesterday, did.

I would phone Triage ASAP, they should bring you in and do a presentation scan. If your waters break or you start having tightenings phone labour ward straight away. If you are not labouring and baby isn't head down they will likely admit you and talk about birth options.

Definitely call Triage.

Deffo call fetal medicine unit/triage and they can scan you/assess you

How are you doing @Sunflower654?

I’m doing well thank you - a midwife checked and thought baby was oblique but after another check, baby is now head down and starting to engage!

Hi OP, just wanted to share my story incase you are unsure what may happen. My baby was head down but flipped breech AFTER 40 weeks which was quite rare. As I was past my due date they decided to schedule a c section for the following day. I turned up at hospital, checked in and he had flipped back head down. He had an unstable lie. They decided to induce me because of this, as they didn’t want him to flip back to breech and labour to begin. Hopefully your LO stays head down! Good luck!
