Firstly you need to inform your mw usually they won't check you internally until you are in established labour once your waters have broken because of risk of infection. I think usually you have to go in to hospital to get checked around 12-24 hours after they have broken if you are not in labour by then and if everything is ok you can get sent home or they induce you. Tweak your nipples to bring it on it worked for me in exactly the same circumstances. Good Luck and start tweaking!

nipple stimulation, especially with a breast pump. relax , close eyes, and do a visualisation of the birth... rest, potter around, eat and drink as you need to. are you sure it was your waters? a big uncontrollable gush>? have you phoned MW ?

Hi daisies I'm assuming you're 37 weeks plus? If so your twinges are a good sign btw. The best thing is lots of exercise! Walking up and down the stairs helped me. You probly shouldn't have a bath due to risk of infection but have a shower, have some food, make sure you have a bit of a rest too to build up your strength. Different hospitals have different policies on when they will induce if labour not established but if there's no infection and your pregnancy has been problem free, then you should be okay for a while! I hope everything goes well.

NICE used to say 96 hours ok, this has been reduced to 24 hours, but not sure why ! as long as fluid is clear, you are not feeling unwell and you are not feverish you can hang on. no sex though !

you do not have to be induced if you do not want to and there is every chance your labour wil start.

OrmIrian · 23/05/2008 14:29

Keep moving. Happened like that to me and I was threatened with induction so I walked and walked till the contractions were established.

Nipple tweaking and raspberry leaf tea worked for me.
