DC2 due soon - normal to be petrified about the birth?

I didn't have any major problems with birth of DD1 but for some reason this time round I am really scared.

The hormones really did their job last time - although I was in labour 36 hours I can't really remember being in pain (DH assures me I was!) so I am really worried all over again this time - much more than last time in fact.

Maybe because I know what's coming - is this normal?!

I gave birth to DC2 in April and know exactly what you mean. However, when it all started it was fine. I found the fact that I had done it before really helpful as I didnt panic nearly as much as last time. In fact I was perhaps a little too relaxed as DS arrived 25 minues after arriving at the hospital. Much to the to the midwife and myself. I have to say I never thought I would be one for natural childbirth but there you go. The only bit of advice I have is to try the hypnobirthing CD and book. I didnt do it relegiously and didnt start until 37 weeks but I really think it helped. I read the book and then fell asleep listening to the CD most nights. Apart from that by the time you get near your due date you will want the baby out! I woudl have paid someone to induce me if I had gone overdue.

Same here - was far more scared of giving birth the second time. I think it is to do with knowing what to expect.

I think its normal, but you WILL be fine!

I'm more nervous this time round and I'm not even due until December. Ignorance was definitely bliss first time round...

i think this is sooo normal

my sis is an expert baby pusher outter..and even she got a bit wibbly in the last couple of days.

i too started getting nervous if i let my mind think about it too negatively.

once i got into it though,i swear it was fine...(id say it was amazing but you'd never believe me...but it was )

stay cool baby

Don't worry about it. I think it is pretty normal. I'm am overdue with DC3, didn't panic at all about DD1 and 2's labours but this time round it's a different story and I have no idea why .

Once you get going you'll be fine I'm sure. I have heard a lot of good things about hypnobirthing though so well worth looking into it seems. Bit late for me now though.....

With the first you dont know what to expect, so with the second you have a pretty good idea and you can start to freak yourself out.

I too was scared befor my second, all I can say is you will be fine and that the experience you have is not a bad thing, you can use it to your advantage.

Second time around I knew when to calm and relax my body just befor she arrived, which helped soooo much ( first time I didnt know what was going on), and the second time around you really know it will end
( I didnt belive it with the first )

and it is all that bit more exciting. As you totally know what is at the very end.

All the very best, you will be fine.

Thanks everyone - I am so glad it seems to be normal!

Think I am definitely going to look into hypnobirthing - I have 6 weeks to go so I am sure that gives me enough time!

I'm 7 weeks (give or take) away from number 3 and absolutely starting to freak out about the labour.

I have had 2 fast labours 4 hours and 2 1/2 hours but both were very painful and I felt so out of control and scared.
