Did your labours get shorter/ quicker?

My first labour was 8 hours, my second was 6. I am having an ELCS but worried that if I go into labour naturally, it’ll be faster. Dr said that if I do go into labour, I SHOULD be given an EMCS within two hours but of course it can’t be guaranteed if there are multiple emergencies. Did your labours get faster each time?

Third lavours are notoriously weird!

Mine wasn't quicker than second but it was more controlled.

First was 14 hours.
Second started with a gush of waters breaking and 4 hours.
Third was 6 hours and would progress whilst I was active but if I sat and rested, the contractions tailed off. I literally took a lunch break and sat and had some food then got up and started moving again. All home births.

My first was 36 hours, 2nd was about 6 hours (both very big babies). My 3rd was a ‘tiddly’ 7lbs and born before the midwife would even examine me because there was “no way” I could possibly be in established labour yet.

@MmeChoufleurthats my fear 😩

1st 7 hours
2nd 6 hours
3rd 1 hour
4th 5 hours
5th 12 hours

Dosent seem to have much rhyme or reason to it really

To be fair, I’d take my 3rd over the other 2 every time! I literally had to cross my legs to give the midwife time to put her gloves on, and dd was born in one push.

Yes, waaaay quicker...
1st labour started naturally at 36+2 and baby born 40 hours after waters breaking
2nd labour didn’t begin naturally (I was induced at 37+1) - nothing progressed in the 1st 24hr. I then had tightenings for 12hr and suddenly waters broke and baby was born 37 minutes later in maternity unit… I didn’t make it to labour ward, my DP didn’t make it to the birth. I laboured on my own with no pain relief. Awful and traumatic experience

This isn’t reassuring (although I appreciate the responses) as I’m very worried I won’t make my CS.

No

Hollietree · 11/05/2025 17:53

1st: 22 hours
2nd: 4 hours
3rd: 1hr 45 mins

MrsPlantagenet · 11/05/2025 17:54

My first was 6 hours, my second about half that.

KaToby · 11/05/2025 18:20

1st was 27 hours from first contraction to baby being born.

2nd was just over 5 hours.

3rd my water spontaneously broke which had never happened to me before! Then contractions started and she was born 2 hours later.

All manageable and with DD3 I didn’t even have gas and air as it made me sick.

im expecting number 4 so hoping for an hour this time 🤣

elliejjtiny · 19/05/2025 00:07

3rd was quicker than first but slower than 2nd

ToriLynn · 30/05/2025 15:13

1st - 35 minutes
2nd - 1 hour 25 minutes (back to back and 2lbs bigger 🤦‍♀️)
3rd - 10 minutes
all timed on my notes from 4cm - birth

Panicmode1 · 30/05/2025 15:17

Yes
1st - 48 hours, every single intervention (short of a CS) under the sun
2nd - 8 hours
3rd - 6 hours
4 th - slightly niggly during the day, one almighty contraction at 6pm, at the hospital by 6.15, baby born at 6.23...MW didn't even have time to leave the room for a delivery pack, DS4 was almost born in the corridor whilst waiting for entry to the delivery suite!!
