Ok so I'm currently 20+5 with number 4.

Ds1 hospital birth-10hrs-7lb 6oz
Ds2 hospital birth-5hrs-7lb 13oz (only at hos 45mins)
Dd home birth-3hrs-9lb 4oz

Now the thing I am wondering is whether it is even worth me looking into getting a Doula at all given how quick I tend to give birth. I'm planning another hb too. With dd my dp ended up delivering her as for the first hour thought it may only be BH then by time mw was called and on her way it was too late. Dd was fairly big too and so far I have been told this little one is heading the same way. Already measure 2wks ahead, scan on Tues so will get them to check measurements etc.

I just really don't want to be left in the same position as with dd and with a poss bigger baby so therefore giving more chance for any complications and for us to be alone? But would a Doula even get here in time, not that I'd be expecting them to help deliver, just knowing someone else is there to make calls etc if needed. (Dp especially, doesn't particually want a repeat performance!)

Also I live in a fairly rural place in Kent and not even sure where the nearest not too expensive Doula is based.

Sorry to have waffled on but any advice you could give is greatly appreciated

Thanks xx

I am Kent,

In order for us to get there in time, you call at the first signs, particularly in your case, we would come straight away rather than leave till you were really in need, iyswim.

Any questions please feel free to ask.

I know your births do seem to be running a pattern of getting bigger and shorter but it's not written in stone that your next one will follow suit.

look here

www.douladirectory.co.uk/

lots Kent based Doulas. x

also take a look at www.doula.org.uk under 'Find a Doula'.

Please remember a Doula 'can't' deliver your baby though.

Liahgen - Ooooh where are you then? Fancy a midnight dash to mine lol!!

Thank you both for the links. I'll look into it a bit more. I know they can't deliver baby but just the knowing that I/we are not alone is what I'm looking for

What about an independent midwife?

liahgen · 18/05/2008 22:40

I'm In Maidstone.

Midnight dashes and me are like that![crossed fingers emoticon]

Seriously, have a look at the links, I'm on both sites if you wanna check out my website.

You need to see a few people and choose someone that you gel with, it's such a personal experience, it has to be right.
Good luck. x

I can't afford an IW or I would! Saying that I could just cut all the fuss and have my aunt there, she's been a mw for about 20yrs lol! Why didn't I think of that before

Thanks for the link Liahgen, think we're only about 40mins from Maidstone, small world

I shall ask the Aunt and see what she says and look for a Doula as a back up. One of them has to get here on time lol!
