What was your 3rd labour like?

I know every birth is different but curious how your 3rd labour/delivery compared with your previous 2.
Currently 36 weeks, at the slog stage where everything is an absolute effort and again for the 3rd time, I've convinced myself I'm going early even though last 2 both came a few days after 40wks 😂

I've completely hit a wall with fed up-ness!

I feel your pain. 3rd pregnancy here to. Was convinced I’d go before 40 weeks ( DD1 - 39 weeks, DD2 -41 weeks). Currently 3 days overdue and sooo done with it all 😂

biscuitcat · 04/03/2025 15:24

No experience to share but I'll join the fed up and very pregnant with number 3 club 😂 38 weeks on Thursday and feeling well and truly done with being pregnant! My second arrived at 38+2 and first on his due date - I'm desperately hoping this one is on the earlier side too but just have a horrid feeling it's going to drag out...

laesosalt · 04/03/2025 16:10

My best birth! Quick, unmedicated and no interventions ❤️

CharlotteFlax · 04/03/2025 20:32

Main difference between them was when the waters broke - was two hours before birth with my first, 5 hours before my second birth and 34 hours before my third birth!

Missingcoffee22 · 04/03/2025 20:38

Quick! But so was my 2nd. 4cm to born in about 1.5 hours.

39+5 (just, born at 12.40am) compared to 40+3 and 39+3 so not huge differences in gestation.

newandconfused5 · 04/03/2025 20:46

First born at 40+5
Second born at 40
Third born 40+10

Lots of stop starting for days it felt like. First sweep made me feel like I was going in to labour but didn't. Second sweep did it! Had the sweep at 10am. Went in to labour at 16:30 and he was born at 19:51. My quickest labour but only by an hour). No intervention.

Good luck. I very much remember googling how long was the longest pregnancy whilst I was waiting haha!! He's 2.5 years old now x

Ferrazzuoli · 04/03/2025 20:47

My third was 3 days early - which was not what I expected given the first two were both a week late! Straightforward labour, 3.5 hours from start to finish. Good luck OP.

Bluebella27 · 05/03/2025 10:31

Thanks for the comments girls! Especially the one where it was your best birth!
I've had 2 pretty crap ones, first one very very traumatic- second one meh.. so very much clutching at straws that third one is going to be a charm 🙈 had tightenings last night but must have been more positional as I don't make tiny babies and this one is LOW down.
sigh
Hand holds for the others in this position!

SO much easier than the first two. By MILES. He started coming out in the waiting room because the midwife didn't think I needed a delivery room yet because I seemed like I was only in early labour.

Bluebella27 · 05/03/2025 16:41

@Thepossibility oh god the glamour! Hope you got some privacy for the final push... I'm so hoping for a quick labour but only once I'm in a labour room- I've got the fear of giving birth in the car on the way there 🙈 your brain just goes into all the scenarios at this stage 🙈

@Bluebella27 I had my 3rd last Thursday. She was 5 days overdue but came after a 45 minute Labou (from waters breaking to her being delivered, contractions for about 20 mins in total 😅) I had her at home with 4 paramedics as didn’t have chance to even get to the hospital!

i Cleaned the whole house from top to bottom the day before and I’m sure that helped as I had a sweep at lunchtime and was told my cervix was still posterior and long! She was born 6am the following morning!

TrufflePopcorn · 05/03/2025 22:34

Mine was exactly the same than the two previous ones, only better managed.

Bluebella27 · 06/03/2025 17:31

@8weekscrossed congratulations! I keep having dreams that this happens to me..I suppose if it's fairly quick then might be nice not to have to trek to the hospital and risk getting stuck in traffic!
You'll have the best birth story for your number 3!

@TrufflePopcorn do you mean better medically or mentally managed?

My 3rd came at 38+6 and was very quick, just over two hours in total!

menopausalfart · 06/03/2025 17:34

I had vaginal births on all 3. My 3rd was more painful than my 2nd but nowhere near as traumatizing as my 1st.

LegoHouse274 · 09/04/2025 17:09

Like others here, my third was my quickest labour and birth. It was my best experience, even though it didn't go as planned - as baby was born at home, before even the paramedics could arrive! My first two were very long labours, pushing both for hours, and both ventouse births. So it was completely different! It was my smallest baby (although only slightly smaller than my first - but much smaller than my second, who was the same sex as the third). Also my earliest gestation - but by less than a week, so nothing significant.

IveGotAnUnusuallyLargePelvisISwear · 09/04/2025 22:06

My 3rd was a weird one really as there had been more than a 10 year gap between 2nd and 3rd baby and I was told this was why sweeps didn’t work (I had 3) something to do with my cervix returning to pre pregnancy stage. I was induced at 40+2 in the end (previous babies were 2 days early/bang on time). I only needed the pessary and my waters went by themselves. I think from the pessary being inserted to the birth was 7-8 hours. Up until my waters went I was so calm- bounced on my ball, walked up and down the corridors with my husband.

I will say that literally every single midwife told me that 3rd babies are the “trickiest”. And mine was very tricky- she did a poo while I was in labour and then kept taking a while to recover after each contraction- her heart rate would dip and wouldn’t come back to normal properly. The problem then became I had one long continuous contraction with no break at all so I had to push her out a little sooner than everyone expected I would as she was struggling. It probably “only” lasted minutes but felt a tad longer. Still had a vaginal delivery on nothing but gas and air which I had wanted and recovered fine- even my stitches didn’t bother me that much (tore but preferred that to the episiotomy I’ve previously had).

Was the best and least stressful labour and birth out of all 3 of my babies! That was possibly down to how well we were looked after before, during and after.

Just to join the club and say very tired 34 weeks and waiting for 3rd baby. I hate these last few weeks. When is it overrrrr 😭😭😭
