Support band/belly binder for after C section?

Hi all,

Just after some advice please re the above. I'm due my second in March and after very difficult traumatic birth with my first have been recommended a c section this time. I'm terrified of the process but mostly the recovery (with a toddler).

My stomach muscles never seemed to come back together properly after my first, although I didn't do much excise as I was planning another so didn't see the point if it was all going to get stretched again 😂

I've seen belly support bands advertised which I think are meant to help with everything coming back together but have tried to ask midwife and consultant about this and been told it's not necessary and not to use one, even weeks/months after the birth. Has anyone used one before that helped? Any recommendations if so? Also always open to recovery advice and tips, I'm really bricking it and keep having nightmares ☹️

I bought one and used it once or twice maximum. I found it really uncomfortable and healed well without it

I had a caesarean (elective) last week and I was terrified of the recovery. I don’t have a toddler but I can say that for me the recovery has been far far far better than I thought it would be. I’m on day 6, I went on a walk on day 3, I haven’t really taken any painkillers in a couple of days (haven’t needed to) and generally feel about 80% back to myself. I have to remind myself I have had surgery and to take it easy. The worst part for me was the bloating/trapped wind but I drank loads of peppermint tea and got some wind relief tablets from boots and it has gone mostly now. I was terrified of going for a number 2 also but that caught me totally off guard and I went on day 3 and it was painless, and have been regular since. I don’t have a band, the midwife gave me a stretched but of bandage for support but I haven’t needed it whatsoever.
For me it has been brilliant but I know that’s not everyone - but I’d not have any reservations in having another. The whole process was very peaceful and a beautiful memory of meeting our much longed for little girl for the first time.
Good luck! ❤️

I had support c section pants and they were great. Meant I could laugh, sneeze and not worry.

I can't find the exact ones I had but these look similar.

Definitely use a support band. I had a lot of damage after my second C-section that could probably have been avoided if I'd used a girdle.
