First period postpartum

Hello,
I'm posting for reassurance more than anything I guess, I'm six weeks postpartum this Thursday following a C-section my postpartum bleeding stopped at about 4 1/2 weeks and was always relatively light and last Wednesday I started bleeding again and was unsure whether it was my period starting (not breastfeeding) or Postpartum bleeding continuing, however I've had the period type cramps so suspect it is my period it started off relatively light nothing really on the pad but blood there when I wiped but since Sunday evening I've been bleeding really heavy.
I think yesterday I changed my pad six times throughout the day Every time I go to the toilet there's blood in the water and then last night overnight I've bled so much it saturated the pad. It's gone through my underwear through my pyjamas and onto my bedsheet. My period before pregnancy were never overly heavy. Is this normal?

I Otherwise feel well no lightheadedness, don't feel flu like, the blood doesn't Smell. There are clots, but they're not particularly big.

Was just posting to see if any other women have experienced really heavy periods postpartum??

before trying to get a GP appointment which I probably won't be able to get..

Hmm I’d be concerned if they continue to bleed through the pad, definitely book in with a gp if you can. My friend had a c section and started bleeding around six weeks after and she was also soaking through pads for a few days - it turns out there was a little pocket of blood that was from the c section that had released the blood, was nothing to worry about, but that was the cause.

My first postpartum period concerned me with how heavy it was. That level of heaviness only lasted 2 days I think, so I wouldn't tell you to ignore it if it's continuously heavy, but to some extent I think it's normal for the first one to be heavy for some women. I think they say soaking a pad an hour warrants medical attention. Good that you're feeling otherwise well but if that changes definitely seek help.
I can laugh now but certainly not at the time when hormones were flying.. I was on a weekend away with DH's family when I got it. Obviously only had a couple of outfits with me for the weekend. Soaked through all my undies, 2 pairs of jeans and a pair of leggings. Desperately trying to wash them in the hotel bath and eventually having to send DH into the nearest town to pick up new clothes for me. The joys! Invested in some Tena underwear also. If it's any consolation they got lighter as the months went on, probably had 3 heavy ones but nothing like that first one.
Hope all settles down for you OP.

It's really common for the first 1-3 or so periods to be heavy after birth, the first one after both of my babies was horrendous. They tend to go back to normal over the first few months

This was also my experience and still is at 7 months pp. My periods are so heavy now compared to pre kids. Used to wear one pad a day and now I need tampons and pads at the same time day and night. So much extra laundry too! Hope yours lighten up again.
