Weakness post partum

I had a beautiful baby boy on Monday. Stayed 2 nights in hospital, got zero sleep. Got home on the Wednesday and that night I came over nauseous and weak. I couldn't mind the baby as I was too weak to hold him/look after him on my own

Same happened then Thursday evening also, full body weakness/drained feeling. Heart racing when falling off to sleep.

I've been in hospital and monitored for post partum pre eclampsia and it does not seem to be that. I am on labetalol since 1 week before the birth.

But noone has any answers for me and I'm getting so frustrated at not being able to mind my own baby. I've already had to spend two nights away from him.

Has anyone else experienced this and gotten to the bottom of it? I'm terrified for evening to come and it to hit again.

Sorry to hear this op. Did you haemorrhage? Ask them to check your blood pressure and iron levels when they next visit. I felt like this too after dc1, I had lost a lot of blood. Don't let them fob you off, you shouldn't feel this way, I felt much better after having dc2, when I hadn't haemorrhaged

Thank you, no I had a very straight forward delivery - albeit it was very quick (4cm to baby out in 1 hour!). But no mention of significant blood loss, and my bleeding has been normal since. Iron levels are slightly low but not of a concern.

When you say your iron levels are slightly low, how low? What is your blood pressure like?

Really, your symptoms are very consistent with postpartum anemia. See your gp about getting on some strong iron supplements.

I'm assuming you don't have a high temperature because you haven't mentioned it. If you have a high temperature as well, I'd be worried you might have sepsis which is a medical emergency.

My iron levels are around 9.4 (it was 12.6 at start of pregnancy). My blood pressure has been good. I was kept in hospital for 24hrs (without my baby which was awful) for monitoring for pre eclampsia and all readings were within normal range. So hoping to get off the blood pressure medication soon.

Felt a bit better yesterday it was just a bit of nausea in the evening instead of full body weakness so hopefully I'm on the way back!
