Maternal choice c-section with heart problems

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone can help me…I’m currently 28 weeks, I have been high risk throughout my whole pregnancy as I have congenital heart disease and have had elevated blood pressure throughout. I discussed with the consultant anaesthetist about a maternal choice c section and she understood my reasonings and agreed that I don’t want any strain to my heart/don’t want my blood pressure to elevate in natural labour. I know that this could result in me having an emergency c section anyway which I would like to avoid, I feel that I would have a sense of control if I had an elected c section and my blood pressure would stay low. I have my next consultant appointment tomorrow. Has anyone requested a maternal section for having heart problems since birth?

Hello,

Didn't want to read and run. My circumstance isn't similar to yours in that I have no health reasons as such but I opted for a maternal choice C section, and it was granted no problems. Actually having it next Wednesday, a week today. If what you are worried about is push back, I just wanted to let you know I had non. X

Really appreciate this reply, yes main thing I was worried about was push back. I feel reassured you had no push back x

@mumtobe121 glad I could offer some reassurance. Of course, I have learnt along the way from Mumsnet that it does vary from trust to trust. My hospital trust have been fantastic but I have come across others that have had a hard time getting it, what I would advice is do a lot of research, going into your appointments well informed helps them see your making a conscious decision. Also, a great group to follow if your on Instagram is csection UK. A world of very important information and courses you can buy, very helpful! Good luck xxx

I feel like you have a really valid medical reason for this and can’t see them questioning it?
