Overdue 1 week - what helped you start labour?

Hello,

This is my first pregnancy and I'm currently 41 weeks today meaning I'm overdue 1 week. I lost my mucus plug 2 days ago and having achy pains but not sure if they are contractions as they are not regular. I have tried the mile circuit, drank teas, exercised. My doula checked heartbeat and everything is fine, baby is moving, reacting well to things, she's just too comfortable haha

What helped you start labour?

Going to a kids' birthday party and sitting on one of the tiny kids' chairs - waters broke instantly and dramatically! Nothing happened for a while after that, and then I decided to watch Forrest Gump (!) which got me sobbing and the emotional release seemed to just help me relax into labour! Good luck, OP. It's so exciting to be waiting for your first...

The only thing that got my two very comfortable, very overdue babies out was sex, I’m afraid.

Delorian · 17/11/2024 21:47

A long painful induction 7 days later. The bloody yoga ball did nothing, nor did walking for hours a day.

123Gato · 17/11/2024 21:49

I ate a whole pineapple before going to bed. Admittedly I was 2weeks overdue, but the following morning baby shot out like a bloody rocket - labour only 45 mins in total!

goggleboox · 17/11/2024 22:26

Cleaning started mine

Muchtoomuchtodo · 17/11/2024 22:29

Nothing I’m afraid! I was induced at 42 +4

N.b i had swapped hospitals mid way through my pregnancy and there was some disagreements on my dates but I was in agreement with the original one.

Sk1sk0 · 18/11/2024 07:02

Nothing. I tried everything and had to be induced. What will be will be!

Only ate chocolate Akta-Vite and cold milk for a few days.
Not planned but I had no room for food.

CatsandDogs22 · 18/11/2024 07:13

I spent the day digging potatoes out of our garden bed and repeatedly lifting my 18 month old nephew up so he could reach something. Not sure if either of those things contributed or not.

A "good" sweep

Putyourshoesonnownownow · 18/11/2024 07:18

A sweep

Rocknrollstar · 18/11/2024 07:58

Laughter started my first labour. Watch something on tv - Would I Lie to you or whatever you find funniest.

lavenderlou · 18/11/2024 08:00

I ate almost a whole pineapple. Coincidence or not I went into labour within a few hours.

rainbowbaby2 · 18/11/2024 14:56

Bouncing on my ball watching bridesmaids with a Buck's Fizz!

Framilode · 18/11/2024 15:20

Bursting into tears of frustration started both mine when I was overdue.

warofthetimemachines · 18/11/2024 15:22

Pitocin.

WhatMe123 · 18/11/2024 21:52

A sweep and then a long walk but inwas already 1cm at the sweep so I think I was probably going to start soon anyway

tediber · 18/11/2024 23:04

Honestly absolutely nothing! I tried a long walk, spicy food, pineapple and even sex. I'd had a sweep at just before 40wks and I was apparently very favourable. I ended up getting enduced at 41 wks as blood pressure kept going up.

Shoemadlady · 18/11/2024 23:52

Sweep sweep sweep!

justasking111 · 19/11/2024 00:04

First baby sitting on a boat bobbing on the water while husband varnished.

Second baby, the sweep did nothing. Putting up the Christmas tree and decorating it seemed to do the trick

MarigoldSpider · 06/12/2024 21:41

Both of my babies were born spontaneously at 41 weeks. It’s just how long I cook them for!

With my first I went into labour the same night that I had sex and my second it was during the night after I’d been on a long walk and had been on my feet all day.

But ultimately as I’m sure you know. Baby will come when they are ready 😊

Are you planning a Homebirth if you have a doula? Both of mine were born at home. Would recommend!
