my first birth was an emergency c-section. i was given Epidural (before the operation) but i had it few hours later after the induction.

i cant deal with pain as i go all light headed..honest so can i ask for an epidural as soon i put my foot in the maternity hospital for my 2nd birth?

and do i need to tell my midwife about this epidural situation?

Hiya! In my knowledge, the MWs need to be absolutly sure that you are in real labour so the answer is probably no. But they can do it pretty quickly, if you ask as soon as you get there. I did and had an epi about two hours after I got there. Are you pregnant? you can ask about your hospital's standard procedures during your visits.

biglips - i asked for one as soon as i knew i was pregnant again! some mws are funny about epis, particularly for 2nd birth - but explain clearly why you want it, put it in birth plan and be assertive. blueberry pancake's suggestion about finding out what your hospital offers is also good - i found this very helpful in my case. Good luck!

biglips, you will need to check the policy of your hospital re VBAC and epidural, some do not like to give epidural as it can mask the pain of (rare) complications..

there are other options for pain relief
