Low lying placenta birth stories?

If you had a low lying placenta, how did it turn out? Did you have to stay in hospital? Bleeding? Early labour? C section (and at what week?)

Thanks!

I had a low lying placenta with DC3 for the whole pregnancy (posterior and had two c sections before, so wasn’t very likely to lift). No symptoms until 37+4 at all - and I was VERY active - but woke up to a proper bleed then in the early hours. Wasn’t a nice experience in any way. The bleeding fortunately stopped and I was admitted to wait for a theatre slot (I wasn’t pushing for an immediate surgery).

Baby came at 37+6 and was one of those 2-3 in a hundred who need some help with breathing on the NICU. Then we stayed on the ward for couple more nights to make sure everything was ok and went home. It was the fastest c section I had (30 min) with the smallest blood loss, close to a vaginal delivery.

Good luck! In most cases placentas lift and if not, babies go home straight away. We just seemed to attract all odds on this occasion x

@WolfMother326 just wondering how this all went? Following with interest… am currently 33 weeks with my first baby, was told last week that my placenta is still low (5/6mm away) and that because its posterior it’s unlikely to move but I am having another scan at 36 weeks to confirm. If I do need a c section though at 37/38 weeks this seems incredibly soon!

Had to stay in hospital for 7 weeks. Emergency C section at 34 weeks. In Special baby care unit for a month. Is now 30 and in the military. ☺️

@hopingforapeainapod sorry for the slow reply, how are you getting on?

I had a rough go of it but it all turned out OK in the end. My placenta moved a little but never more than 1 cm away.

I had one episode of heavy bleeding at 35+5 and was admitted to the hospital for monitoring. I stopped bleeding but basically was told I shouldn't go home. Spent one week on the antenatal ward and then had a very calm and positive c section at 36+5. I didnt have any unusual bleeding during. He didn't need any special support but lost a lot of weight and we spent 1 week in hospital.
Baby is now 7 weeks old and is doing well.

@WolfMother326 thanks for updating me! I’m sorry you had to spend extra time in hospital but very glad your section went well and you and baby are doing good!

So I had a bleed about 35 weeks, was kept in hospital for a few days for monitoring which luckily never became super heavy but 36 week scan confirmed my placenta is still low and had barely moved at all since 32 weeks (still only 7mm away) so c-section it is. Now going back and forth with the hospital about when to have this. They have scheduled this for when I am 39 weeks exactly, which I am not super happy about… worried about risks of going into early labour / having another bleed, and so am trying to push for an earlier section around the 38 week mark but no confirmation yet and whilst the care at my hospital in general seems to be very good the communication is not…!!

Had low lying placenta with dc2, had moved by 34 week scan and birth was normal.

@hopingforapeainapod how did it all turn out?

@WolfMother326 so I actually had another bleed at 36 weeks so the consultants decided not to risk me having another so they moved my c section forward to 37+1 and baby boy was safely born on the 3rd of October!
