Hi there
We are having our first baby and wondering how it works moving from private pre-natal care / delivery to going on the NHS for postpartum care.
We decided to go private for maternity care for many reasons - luckily we can afford it but it’s definitely pricey for us so we want to move to NHS for postpartum care. We’ll be in the private ward of a NHS hospital with a private OB but wondering what happens after you give birth, particularly with postpartum care - we’ve been told usually if you’re on the NHS, your NHS midwives or health care visitors would come to your house for visits after the birth and there are various check ups for the baby after they’re born - is that still the care if you had private maternity care? How do they “connect” you back to the NHS after delivery - do we do it ourselves? Presumably we’ll also need to register the baby with our NHS GP once it’s born?
Also in the unfortunate event that there are complications (touch wood) and the baby needs to go to NICU or receive any specific treatment at the hospital, can we opt for this to be on the NHS?
Many thanks in advance!
