Postpartum Bleeding

I’m 5.5 weeks postpartum, I had a caesarean birth so my lochia was never that heavy past the first few days. It has fizzled out to yellowish discharge for the last week or so. Yesterday I started bleeding again a bit of bright red blood, mainly when I wipe and nowhere near filling a pad. It seemed to stop but has started again today.

I otherwise feel well. Would you get this checked out or presume it’s my period? I’m not breastfeeding. My periods are normally painful but this isn’t really, although I’ve read they can be different since giving birth?

Having my 6 week check on Monday so not sure whether to request an appointment tomorrow or wait until then!

I'd say it's very likely to be a period if you're not BF. If you feel well otherwise when I wouldn't worry.

With my postpartum bleeding it stopped within the first two weeks and then came back the same as yours roughly 5 weeks postpartum. It didn’t feel like a period as I had none of my normal period symptoms and like yours was only when I wiped. I also wasn’t breastfeeding.

My period started about 7 weeks postpartum and I definitely could feel the difference. It wasn’t as painful but my acne was bad again , I was starving and the period was a lot heavier than normal .

I would put it down to postpartum bleeding, have you been more active the last few days? No harm in mentioning it when you get your 6 week check!

Mine stopped and started for a few weeks, especially after doing too much exercise. It tailed off completely at 10 weeks and I didn't get a period for 18 months (was breastfeeding though). It can be very common for it to stop and start at this early stage so I wouldn't assume it was a period just yet.

I have been active although I’m not sure if I’ve been more active than I have been for the past couple of weeks. Only thing I can think is that I’ve been lifting the car seat as DH has gone back to work and I’ve felt well enough to drive now. I’m scaring myself with stories of retained placenta and infection 😬

Lifting and walking more is what set off my flow again. Try and take it easy the next few days and see if it slows down again.
