Hi Mosschops30, I understand your feeling. I gave birth one week overdue, and I too was given a date for induction, which I didn't like.
I tried many thing to speed up the delivery, ranging from taking big amount of evening primrose oil, reflexology, exercises, to having a stroll to the park to use the swings. I had a natural birth a day after the swing :D

Hope you can have a wonderful and natural birth experience...

Mosschops - how overdue are you because you are under no obligation to accept induction at all. Your baby will decide when he/she is ready!

I was booked for induction too in August but had no intention of going for it. My mw told me to just ring in the morning and say I wasn't coming if I hadn't given birth by then! Luckily I did but I had 3 sweeps first, a couple of sessions of sex and ate a whole pineapple 2 nights running! Not sure if any of those worked but you see how desperate I was not to be induced!

Good luck and stand your ground - do not be pressured into anything you don't want to do. It's your body and your birth and if there are no reasons to be concerned, let your body and your baby decide.

BTW - I was induced with ds1 and it really was fine so don't be terrified if you do have to go with it - I've no complaints or regrets about it but having had ds2 naturally, with no pain relief (no time! ) I was adamant I wanted to give birth in my own time, using breathing and a bit of gas and air only when it came to my 3rd baby. I wouldn't have been forced into induction but instead would have had daily checks to check all was OK.

i can recommend 2 hours of gardening to bring on labour! Sorry hope baby arrives safely before 7th

Mosschops - the chances are you will go into labour naturally so try not to worry now. I was induced first time at 10 days and I just accepted it (being first time Mum, just went along with whatever they said!).

This time (3rd) I was due to be induced at 11 days over and all the midwives I saw just talked about it like that was what happened, ask no questions, but one day when I went in for monitoring, I told the midwife I really didn't want to be induced and she was great - told me there was no obligation, noone could make me and that I could just ring up on the day and say I wasn't coming! She said I'd then be checked daily to make sure of properly functioning placenta etc. So don't worry, they won't abandon you!

Pregnancies can last up to 43 weeks naturally , though not many do, and you could easily go to 42 weeks quite safely with proper monitoring by your midwives.

Sorry, I've rambled but I know how you are feeling and just want to make sure you know you don't have to accept the induction at all.

How old is dd? Be aware you could havea quick one!

It's not always the case I know, but when I had ds2 I had 3 friends also having their second around the same time and we all had really speedy births! I got to hospital wondering if i was in labour or not (didn't even bring bag in from car) and ds2 was born 40 minutes later!!! My gap was only 19 months though.

Mosschops - I really know how you feel (I posted on your other thread). I stood my ground and asked to be monitored until 42 weeks (this was the cut off point for being eligible for the birth centre) which the hospital agreed to. I got different views depending on who I was speaking to, but generally, hanging on to 42 weeks doesn't pose a high risk AT ALL. They need to check the levels of amniotic fluid plus the usual heartbeat/bp checks. FWIW I think at 11 days over, it's not essential to be induced, unless there is a problem.
Is there a time limit for being at the birth centre?

Poor you mosschops. I have a big gap between my 2 too - ds was 6 when dd was born. DD was 10 days late and I was under pressure to be induced at 12 days but luckily it didn't happen. You really don't have to do what they tell you to though, as someone else said. And I don't think any of the 'tricks' work, I think babies come when they're good and ready! I do know how frustrating it is though, really hope you go into labour before the date they've given you.

My son wasn't actually born until 16 days past his due date - he was fine. My waters broke on the 14th day, 5 hours too late for the birthing centre so I had to go to a huge hospital 20 miles away, but the birthing centre also does fantastic aftercare - so homelike.

Anyway, 14 days is usually the cutoff point, they are probably trying to fit you in according to their convenience. Is it on a thursday by any chance?
