Lindo Wing - recent experiences?

Hi!

We have recently swapped from NHS to Private at St Mary’s and so far the experience has been great. But reading through old threads, I can’t find much about postnatal care. Does anyone have any recent experiences? It’ll likely be a C Section so I’ll need a few days there. We went on a tour and liked it! But always best to hear from people as we do have the option to switch to the Portland if we decide to.

thank you

I gave birth at the Lindo wing in 2022.

I had an ELCS and we stayed on the ward for 4 days because DS had jaundice. It was a nice experience - all the midwives and nurses were very helpful and responsive, nothing was too much trouble. They taught me how to change, feed and settle DS. DH stayed with us the whole time, he slept on a fold out bed. We used the nursery overnight to get some sleep, midwives brought DS to me for feeding every 3h. It was still Covid times so we couldn't have any visitors. The ward seemed quiet and empty, we never saw any other patients. Food was good and there was lots of it. It was nice to have a private room but the room was small and had frosted windows so after a few days it felt a bit claustrophobic.

Only you can decide if it's worth the money. I didn't pay for it, it was all covered by insurance so it was a no brainer.

My Consultant worked in both Lindo and Portland and he strongly recommended Lindo over Portland because of access to NHS facilities in case something went really wrong.

What else would you like to know?

also if you don't mind who were you insured with?
