Should I be worried about the following things at 34 weeks?Everyone's advice is very welcome.

I'm 34 weeks on Sunday, and yesterday some jelly came out. I'm sure this is some mucous plug.

I've been to the hospital numerous times this pregnancy with what I think is leaky waters, but they don't even check for amniotic fluid, they just test a wee sample, listen to baby's heart and send me home. They scanned once, and said that he has enough water around him, but sometimes my knickers and pants are soaked. But no one will listen.

I keep getting REALL bad period pains... what is this?

And I think I'm getting Braxton Hicks too.

My back sometimes absolutely kills like it is bruised inside and cramping, and I have to lean over something and rock a bit to ease it.

My cervix gets shooting pains, and feels like it's about to rip open any second.

The baby feels REALLY low now, and my pelvis feels sooooooooooooooo heavy. No idea if he's engaged or not, he wasn't last week.

The midwife plotted the baby on the graph and he's heading for 10lb. How on earth will I push him out????

I sometimes hear a strange loud clicking when the baby moves, my DP has heard it too. I think this could be my pelvis? But I'm not sure.

So anyone who's ever been pregnant, please advise me on which parts I should be worried about, if the baby's on his way, and what these weird things actually are.

Thank you soooooooooo much in advance.

Call a MW now- sounds like it could be premature labour.

Clicking could well be pelvis- look up SPD (symphysis pubis dysfunction) does this sound like you?

braxton hicks normal at 34 weeks but the amniotic loss isn't, so that has to be checked- they have special sticks they can check out whether it's urine or fluid.

Oh and take soaked pants to hospital with you if you go to hospital.

Am due 6 weeks before you btw- so good luck!

KristinaM · 28/03/2008 20:05

you should call the hospital now and ask for their advice

It all sounds like normal horrid pregnancy symptoms apart from the leaky waters. You need to take soaked pads to show the midwives if you are loosing lots of water and they should check you with a speculum to see if there are any signs of fluid. Having said that it can be normal for some women to have so much discharge that their pants feel wet a lot. If you don't need to wear a pad all the time it is probably not your waters. Period type pain is normally the beginning of labour, but if you have been having it for a while it could be that you have an irritable uterus. Don't worry about your midwife measuring you large unless you have had a scan which also measures large, it is very subjective and difficult to tell how big a baby will be and if you haven't been referred for a growth scan she can't be that worried. Ask her about it. Don't worry about a little bit of jelly unless it is blood stained. What number baby is it? (and don't say last )

I've spoken to them and they said I have to wait for another pour, and catch it in a pad, and then take it. Though last time I did, they didn't even check it feel like I'm getting nowhere with them.

And I too think it might be premature labour
My pelvis isn't sort of overly sore. It was at one point, but it's quite bearable now.

Can you just go into the unit and tell them that you think you're in labour? I was checked out at around 34 weeks as I was having bad BHs and the foetal movements had stopped. Everything was OK, it turned out, but I would have been very worried if I hadn't gone.

TheBlonde · 28/03/2008 20:28

When you go in, insist that you think you might be in labour
They can stick you on a monitor for 30 mins - it will check if you are having contractions and check the baby

If the liquid smells sweet then it's probably amniotic fluid

how are things today mumblesmummy?

ib · 29/03/2008 13:06

I wouldn't worry about the size thing. Ds was scanned at 33 weeks and predicted to be over 10 lb. He was born at 39.5 weeks weighing 7 lb 7.

Hi all, the leaking has finally stopped and everything seems to be calming down a bit which is nice.

Glad they sometimes get it wrong with size!!!

Thanks all.
